Northwest cross country teams picked third, sixth in preseason MIAA coaches polls

Northwest2013riggertKANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State University cross country men’s team was ranked third while the women were ranked sixth in the 2016 MIAA Preseason Coaches Polls which were released on Thursday. The Bearcat men had 54 points while the Northwest women had 62 points. The polls are voted on by the conference’s head coaches who cannot vote for their own teams.

On the men’s side, Nebraska-Kearney was first with 74 points and six first place votes. Pittsburg State had three first place votes and was second with 71 total points. Northwest was third with 54 points, two clear of Southwest Baptist in fourth.

For the women, Missouri Southern had 111 points and four first place votes. Fort Hays State also received four first place votes and was second with 108 points. Southwest Baptist had 104 points and three first place votes while Pittsburg State was fourth with 101 points and the remaining first place vote. Nebraska-Kearney was fifth with 89 points.

The season will officially begin on Friday, Sept. 2, with the Bearcat Open in Maryville, Mo. The meet will begin at 6 p.m.
